Vertical Lifts
Vertical lifts have a more complicated design and require slightly more effort to maintain, but will get your boat up very high above the water. Most vertical lifts provide 56-68″ of lift travel which is enough to raise a typical stern-drive boat as much as 38”above the water (56”- 18”= 38”). The greater height provided by vertical lifts also means they are better suited to lakes with water levels that fluctuate a great deal and lakes that have wave action.
Vertical lifts raise the boat with cables which bear the full weight of the boat at all times. There area number of different ways that cables can be configured, but the most common involve 4 or 5 cables and 7 to10 pulleys. The cables run in Z patterns and are threaded through the hollow extrusions that make up the frame of the lift cradle. This front cable is attached to a winch and is the only cable that does any actual lifting; the other cables are there for balance and support.
As mentioned, vertical lifts require slightly more maintenance than cantilever lifts. First, they should be kept as close to level as possible (no more than 2” of variation between corners) to reduce the risk of the carriage binding against the frame, as well as premature cable wear. Second, the cables are prone to stretching over time (because they are bearing the weight of the boat) and need to be adjusted periodically to keep the carriage level. Third, cables may need to be replaced more frequently due to wear – especially the front cable which is the one which does all of the lifting. Most manufacturers suggest replacing cables every two to five years. Lastly, although both types of lifts need to kept free of weeds, this is especially true for vertical lifts. Vertical lifts have more places for weeds to gather and hide, and more pulleys that can jam up because of them. Owners of vertical lifts need to be particularly vigilant about cleaning
weeds off after each time the lift is used.
RGC Vertical Lifts have an open structural design that allows easy access to your boat from both sides of the lift while the boat is in the water. VL platforms are designed to descend lower and lift higher than the competitions’. This versatile range allows the same lift to be used for both shallow and deep water applications, as well as in areas with fluctuating water levels. And with lifting capacities ranging from 1250 lbs. to 10,000 lbs., RGC offers a model to accommodate most lifting requirements. |

Hi-Lift Vertical Lift
Straight up, straight down – A lift for deep water or changing levels
The Hewitt Hi-Lift is an economical, direct vertical rise lift that is ideally suited for deeper water applications or sites where water levels may fluctuate. These lifts are based on simple, proven technology but are distinguished by Hewitt’s rock-solid construction and unique frame design. Hewitt Hi-Lifts incorporate side bars that provide greater stability than “V”-style side designs. Side bars are also set lower for easier boat access. While some competitive lifts have adjustable sidebars, these designs limit maximum lift height. Ten Hi-Lift models provide lifting capacities ranging from 1100 lbs. to 10,000 lbs.
Standard Features
Winches
The Model HL1100 and HL1600 are equipped with Dutton Lainson winches, 4:1 and 6:1 gear ratios respectively. Models HL2600 to HL5600 are equipped with Hewitt high efficiency winches – 15:1 and 20:1 ratios. All manual winches include a 40” aluminum winch wheel with spinner knob. Larger models from the HL6600 to HL10,000 come standard with a heavy-duty electric winch. An optional 25:1 manual winch with wheel is also available for the HL6600. Click here for more winch options and information.
Bunk systems
The HL1100 and HL1600 for lighter craft include four non-scratch cradles and two keel protectors. Models from the HL2600 to the HL6600 are equipped with full-length carpeted bunks and two keel protectors. Carpeted aluminum V-bunks are standard on the HL8000 and 10,000. See accessories catalog for more options.

Design and construction details emphasize durability and trouble-free operation. The corrosion resistant components include a structural aluminum frame, pre-strung stainless steel cables and full-width acetal Delrin plastic pulleys with hardened cast bronze bushings. End-mounted pulleys mean there are no exposed cables midway to interfere with access.
Cable Adjustment Bolts Extra long cable adjustment bolts enable the operator to easily optimize cable tension. |
Leveling Legs Four leveling legs with stainless steel quick-release pins allow easy height adjustment. 30” legs are standard on 1100 lb – 6600 lb lifts; 48” on the 8000 lb – 10,000 lb series. Longer legs are available. |

Quality and Value
Vertical lifts are excellent in shallow water conditions and when the weight of the boat exceeds 4,000 pounds. In these applications, cantilever lifts lose their mechanical lifting advantage. Our vertical lifts are ideal for applications where the water level changes drastically and where maximum clearance is needed. Our direct vertical rise of 66 inches allows you to keep your boat high and dry without continually moving and adjusting your lift.
Pier Pleasure’s vertical lift models are built to meet your high standards of quality, value, and performance. All of our vertical lifts are standard with non- corrosive stainless steel bolts, stainless cable, and brass nuts, giving you many years of service while maintaining a clean appearance. Thick aluminum sheaves are used to maximize cable life and to ensure lasting performance under heavy use. Our vertical lifts offer rigid diagonal V-bracing on both sides, giving uncompromised strength on demand when your boat is raised to maximum height. Our V-braced design also allows for non-restricted access to your boat from either side of the lift making it ideal for slip installations.
